Retina Summit is an annual meeting for retina specialists,
an initiative of Shri Bhagwan Mahavir Vitreoretinal Services, Sankara Nethralaya
Chennai, held in the month of July every year. The conference is unique in having a
focussed theme for every meeting. Here we discuss and share the scientific
knowledge from the basics to recent advances in diagnosing and managing
vitreoretinal disorders. The 7th annual meeting, ‘Retina Summit 2025’, would focus
on “Posterior Segment Trauma”. The Vitreoretinal department at Sankara Nethralaya
is happy to join hands with Asia Pacific Ophthalmic Trauma Society (APOTS) as a
part of APOTS Retina meeting. The summit will bring together leading retina
specialists from across the globe to share the latest insights and advancements in
the field of vitreoretinal care, with a special focus on retinal trauma. It will feature
thematic sessions designed to provide in-depth knowledge and practical insights on
challenging clinical scenarios, cutting-edge research, and unanswered questions in
retinal trauma management.
Chennai is the biggest city in South India and the capital of Tamil Nadu. It is located
on the Coromandel Coast, off the Bay of Bengal. It is known for its industrial,
educational, cultural, commercial interests and traditional food. Chennai has tropical
climate and average temperature is around 36 degrees in July. Choosing the venue
at our own Sankara Nethralaya premises, would be an opportunity to many of the
delegates to visit ‘The temple of eye’ and also a home-coming for many of our
alumnus.

India on 10 th , 11 th and 12 th July 2025.
We would like to thank Dr.R.Gangadhara Sundar, President, APOTS for accepting
our request to jointly host the Retina Summit 2025 and the APOTS Retina Meet in
Chennai. The conference will begin with a pre-conference programme that includes
hands-on workshop and Cross Talk between various departments on 10th July,
Thursday, followed by one and half days of main scientific deliberations spread on
11th and 12th July’25. Posterior segment trauma represents a frequent cause of
emergency ophthalmic visits and has a significant impact on suffering, quality of life
impairment and the reduction of workability. The conference would be focussing on
challenges and nuances in the management of posterior segment trauma. The
esteemed faculty is chosen based on their scientific contributions and expertise in
the field. It will help all participants to establish, develop and execute the appropriate
management of ophthalmic trauma based on medical context. Undoubtedly the
conference will provide a stimulating platform for knowledge sharing and keeping
abreast of challenges faced by the retina specialists and ophthalmologists in tackling
this globally important issue. With mutual interaction, the meeting will be a great
learning feast for all the practicing and budding ophthalmologist. We look forward to

It is with great pleasure that I write this note to congratulate the
organizers of the 7th
Retina Summit to be held on Jul 10, 11 & 12, 2025 at the Medical Research Foundation
Sankara Nethralaya, in the historic and cultural city of Singara Chennai.
The Retina Summit 2025 promises to offer a scientific treatise on all things in retina
with a special focus on Ophthalmic Trauma, the leading cause of preventable
blindness especially in the young. I am gratified to hear that the scientific meeting,
with contributions by an illustrious group of International and National faculty, shall
address conceptual and cutting edge techniques in the primary and secondary
management of globe injuries which will benefit the beginners, the practicing general
ophthalmologists and vitreoretinal surgeons.
The late Sangam Senthamizh poet Thiruvalluvar wrote
“எண்ணென்ப ஏனை எழுத்தென்ப இவ்விரண்டும்
கண்ணென்ப வாழும் உயிர்க்கு. “
Translated: Numbers and letters are the two eyes to live with.
Interpreted: Evidence based medicine based on data along with epidemiologic and
experiential learning and deliberations, are the two eyes that give us the vision of
knowledge … each of which will be addressed at this scientific congress.
On behalf of the Asia Pacific Ophthalmic Trauma Society, I wish all success to the
organizers for putting together the 1st of series of Ophthalmic Trauma masterclasses
paving the path for excellence in advancement of knowledge of the common man’s
disease of Ophthalmic Trauma.
We also welcome the younger generation to take charge and inspiration from our
predecessors and take up the challenge of preventing and better managing this
global burden of trauma related disfiguration, disability and blindness.
